根據美國靈魂樂經典大廠motown唱片公司創辦人berry gordy在1994年出版的自傳書「to be loved : the music, the magic, the memories of motown」改編，獲得2013年東尼獎四項大獎提名的音樂劇【motown: the musical】，描述這位音樂鉅子造就diana ross、michael jackson、stevie wonder、smokey robinson、marvin gaye等樂壇巨星的不朽傳奇事蹟。
 

音樂劇在2013年4月14日於美國百老匯首演後引起熱烈迴響，紐約時報驚呼：「一趟享樂之旅！」綜藝報讚揚：「一場盛大且令人歡欣鼓舞的音樂劇！滿載著偉大的歌手、超勁量的活力，許多讓人歡聲雷動的摩城經典名曲！」好萊塢記者報激賞：「振奮人心！讓人快樂沉浸在不間斷的暢銷曲大襲擊！」
 

擔任過「porgy & bess」音樂劇75週年全球巡演導演的charles randolph-wright談到劇中演員演出時說：「這齣戲每一個層面都要有真實的感覺，面對扮演偶像與英雄如此巨大的工作，演員以崇高的敬意與喜悅體現並喚起這些藝人的風采，完全沒有模仿的意味，與這位在明星尚未成名前就能看出明星特質的人（*指berry gordy）一起工作，全體演員成了我們尋求創造雙重摩城音樂旅程（*指berry gordy的人生旅程，以及音樂劇觀眾聽到音樂時回想起的人生旅程）的指導原則，這張原始卡司錄音專輯映照出他們的偉大天份。」
 

在獲得東尼獎最佳男、女主角提名演員charl brown（*飾演smokey robinson）、valisia lekae（*飾演diana ross），曾經與節奏藍調金童ne-yo同台的bryan terrell clark（*飾演marvin gaye）…等眾多演員投入無比熱情與活力的詮釋下，"i can't help myself (sugar pie honey bunch)"、"stop! in the name of love"、"my girl"、"what's going on "、"abc"、"ain't no mountain high enough"…等靈魂樂經典名曲將再度沸騰每一個樂迷的靈魂。
