千禧年之際，當吉他手juha raivio 巧遇pasi pasanen，芬蘭melodic death metal / 旋律死金、doom metal/毀滅金屬，搖滾勁旅swallow the sun / 吞食太陽樂團就這樣成軍！第一首問世的demo 曲“out of this gloomy light” 就讓樂團獲得唱片公司firebox records 的一只合約，首張專輯【the morning never came】獲得英國知名金屬/搖滾雜誌kerrang! 給予五星滿分佳評：「當今最棒的毀滅金屬搖滾樂團之一！」，swallow the sun 榮列inferno 雜誌「最佳新人」提名！2005 年祭出的第二張專輯【ghosts of loss】空降芬蘭專輯榜第八名，耀眼的成績將system of a down / 墮落體制合唱團狂墊在後，專輯內的紅歌“forgive her...” 空降芬蘭單曲榜第四名，並佔據單曲榜top10 達六週之久。200 6年起簽入spinefarm records 的swallow the sun，開始在全歐密集巡迴，讓毀滅金屬搖滾樂迷們瘋狂不已！2007 年，樂團的第三張專輯【hope】空降芬蘭專輯榜季軍，持續耀眼傲人佳績。2008 年擔任古典弦樂與金屬搖滾跨界混融的重要代表apocalyptica / 金屬啟示錄樂團全歐演唱會的暖場團，更將他們推向主流之列！
